Labour day in Pakistan

Labour day is a public holiday in Pakistan on 1st May every year to celebrate the achievements of workers. it is the day especially for labours and the annual holiday for labours. It is the holiday for the general population, and most businesses and schools are closed on 1st May.

The Labour Unions from all Pakistan organizes rallies and seminars where union leaders present speeches of the history of the labor day and its value. Pakistan is a developing country but the resent situation has improved as compared to previous times. But still, workers don’t get as many rights as compared to other developing countries. Therefore Pakistani workers demanding more rights and benefits on this day.

Pakistan first Labor Day policy was made in 1972. in this policy, May 1st was declared as an official holiday and also made the policy of social security network, the worker’s welfare funds, and also Old age scheme benefits. After independence in 1947, Pakistan became a member of the International Labor Organization [ILO]. ILO is a United Nations[UN] specialized agency which promotes social rights and social justice.
